About Saint Vincent College

Saint Vincent College is a four-year, coeducational, Roman Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college in Latrobe, which is a city in Westmoreland County, in Pennsylvania state, USA, with over 7600 people, living within its limits, at the time of the 2000 census.


The college was established in 1846 and was founded by Boniface Wimmer, a monk from Bavaria, Germany, as the first Benedictine monastery in the United States.

It is currently operated by the Benedictine monks of Saint Vincent Archabbey, and offers its students `a broadly based education that provides a general body of knowledge in the humanities and fine arts, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics, an interdisciplinary view of that knowledge base, and the skills to increase that general body of knowledge throughout their lives.`


Athletics

Saint Vincent's athletic teams are known as the Bearcats and Lady Bearcats, and they compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, at the Division III level. Their distinctive colors are green and gold.
